House Coffee

Most coffee nuts have a goto coffee that is always in stock and fulfils most of their immediate coffee requirements. My main coffee requirements is milk-based, usually flat white but Jan is a cappuccino girl. Over the years my house coffee has changed regularly until I found Rave Coffee's Signature blend.

This became "House" for a couple of years until I went shopping in Beeston and stopped for a coffee in a little cafe near Sainburys.

Sat outside The Bean Cafe on a pedestrian walkway did not bode well but the pastries were good and cappuccino was fantastic. A chat with the Barista revealed the coffee was roasted by Cartwheel Coffee in Nottingham and the blend was called "Misspent Youth". Did I want to buy some beans? Yes, please!

The current bend is version 18. It is 70% Brazilian and 30% Ethiopian beans. Below are the full notes on this blend:

With a new crop year for Brazil bringing a fresh harvest, it is time to update our go-to espresso blend. The update adds a Brazilian natural from Fazenda Gramado to the Ethiopian natural from producer Nuguse Mare. The owner of Fazenda Gramado, Adonis Cerri, runs the local cooperative Divinolandia which aims to promote regional quality. Nuguse Mare owns a small 10 hectare farm in the Sidama region of Southern Ethiopia. 2019 was his first year exporting directly, following changes in the Ethiopian export law. All coffee grown by Nuguse is processed and dried at his family home.

This pairing creates a fantastic blend for your favourite espresso-based drinks. An initial burst of blueberry jumps from the cup, bringing a juicy sweetness and delicate acidity. This transcends into a thick, creamy mouthfeel, with milk chocolate and roasted pecans coming from the Brazilian to round off the cup.
